 The impacts of organized retail crime have made headlines across the nation.  From California to New York, law enforcement officials and businesses have had to face the challenges that organized retail crime crews have brought to their stores and communities.  Numerous stories exist about crews brazenly entering stores and scooping up merchandise with no intent of paying for the items, and with the decrease in law enforcement personnel, police departments typically do not have the resources to assign officers to highly targeted locations.  Even if they did, the cost to deploy officers at stores would be exorbitant.

 For the last several years, the Redlands Police Department (RPD) has utilized electronic satellite pursuit technology manufactured by 3SI Security Systems to apprehend theft suspects, armed robbers, and burglars.
 Law enforcement has begun to turn the tables on organized retail crime crews by working with retail asset protection specialists to deploy these trackers on items that are prone to being stolen.  We would not be as effective if not for the unique service that 3SI Security Systems provides enabling us to lay a trap that has repeatedly been proven to apprehend those that are intent on committing organized retail crime.  3SI Security Systems’ 24-hour 7 day a week Tracking Support Center is there to assist law enforcement with any deployments or tracking incidents.  In addition, 3SI’s Law Enforcement Division stands ready to assist police departments with unique deployments and any other issues that may arise, including precisely locating the tracking device, search warrant preparation, and additional investigation.  As cases are prepared for prosecution, 3SI’s team of experts will help to prepare for trial by providing detailed tracking maps that illustrate time, direction, and speed of travel.  These maps allow investigators to create a bread crumb trail as to which way the suspects traveled after they committed the crime which ultimately enables detectives to collect more evidence.

With over 350 arrests attributed to the technology, RPD has numerous success stories as to how the technology and services provided by 3SI security Systems has enabled the department to enhance police services and apprehend both violent and property crime offenders.  In one recent example, RPD officers deployed a GPS tracking device in the cash register at a convenience store that is prone to robberies.  Recently, a subject robbed the store at gunpoint and fled the location.  The on-duty dispatcher had a very difficult time navigating the website, so responding officers called into the Tracking Support Center and spoke directly to a tracking specialist who guided an officer down a busy freeway during the rush hour commute.  The specialist provided up-to-the-second updates and was immediately able to inform the officer when the suspect exited the freeway about 65 miles away from where the robbery took place.  Furthermore, the specialist was able to direct the officer to a remote parking lot of a casino.  Utilizing information provided by the tracking center, officers were able to pinpoint which vehicle the suspect was likely in and ultimately made an arrest. (If needed, 3SI Law Enforcement Division members could have provided guidance as to how to determine the exact location in the vehicle the tracker was placed by utilizing radio frequency transmissions.)  Afterwards, Law Enforcement Division members provided officers with tracking maps depicting the exact route of travel.

Although this is only one example of the service provided by 3SI Security Systems, there are countless other examples from the City of Redlands and across the country.  Because of 3SI Security Systems and the services they provide, law enforcement across the nation has been able to hold a countless number of criminals accountable for the crimes they have committed.  3SI Security Systems is definitely worthy of being considered as Solution Provider Partner of the Year.
